Jammu, the winter capital of the state of Jammu & Kashmir is the northern-most railhead in the country. The city is carved against the mountainous canvas of the magnificient Trijukta range atop the first ridge which arises from the plains of the Punjab. The river Tawi splashing as it flows along the foothills and Jammu's many temple spires, glitter in the sun.According to legend, King Jambulochan while hunting, saw a tiger and a goat drinking from the same pool of water at a place near modem Jammu. Believing the site to be auspicious, the king laid the foundations of Jammu Nagri at the site. Later he moved his capital to Bahu Fort which stands on the left bank of the Tawi River. A beautiful garden has been laid out around the fort.
